Věra and Josef Pavelek, U Opavice 3, August 7, 2018; audio August 13, 2019

“We participated in the work brigades and in fact it was often fun.”

Mr. and Mrs. Pavelek, along with their two young sons, moved to the apartment block U Opavice 3 in March 1965. The older son was six at the time and the younger three. Mrs. Pavelková worked as a nurse, initially in the operating room and after her arrival in Opava, until her retirement, in a nursery. Mr. Pavelek was employed as a car mechanic at ČSAD until his retirement. The couple were relieved to be assigned their present three-room cooperative apartment U Opavice 3 because until then they had lived with their sons in a one-room apartment of the fourth category without a bathroom. In the interview, Mrs. Pavelková recalls the beginnings in the unfinished U Opavice 3 apartment block and the later work brigades. She also talks about her profession as a children’s nurse and later a deputy head in a nursery, and discusses the traditionally high quality of Opava childern’s nurseries.
